Sara: Day 37

We rolled out of the hotel this morning into 80 degrees, 100% humidity, a fog advisory, and rush hour traffic to start our 81 mile ride from Pensacola to Defuniak Springs. I got to snooze for an extra hour since it was too foggy to leave at sunrise, so, all things considered, it wasn’t the worst morning ever.

Today’s ride was tedious and boring. We were on US 90 the entire way, about half the ride with heavy traffic and unreliable shoulders, and the Floridian towns dotting the route were much less charming than towns to date. The highlight of my day was the milkshake, coke, grilled cheese, and fries for lunch at Susan’s Restaurant in Holt (and the last two were pretty mediocre). Aside from that, the day’s big event was realizing that Sonic sells soft pretzel sticks – and to think I’ve been avoiding Sonic all this time! Oh, we did get one more flat today. Apparently Georgie found the only piece of glass in Florida and brought our total to 23 flats. Will we make it to 2 dozen?

Tomorrow’s weather and route are shaping up to be a repeat of today. Fortunately, the countdown is on and we are brimming with excitement to finish this thing, so our spirits are high!
