Sara: Day 8

Today’s ride from Apache Junction to Globe was shorter than the last few days, which was a welcome change. It was a tough ride, though, with the traffic, wind, and hills, so we moved a little slower than we’ve become accustomed. The scenery was pretty terrific when I had the energy to look around, rivaling those first 17 miles out of Jacumba as the best yet.

The first 15 miles on US-60 out of town were in fairly heavy traffic with fairly non-existent shoulders. I was particularly happy to have my dad there today to help me navigate that stretch of the road. Without him I would have been carrying my bike through the grass – and I probably wouldn’t have liked what I found to the right of the guardrails.

Speaking of things I don’t like, I started noticing what I think are dead tarantulas on the side of the road today. I counted four. I did some Googling when we got in to confirm and it turns out that was a realistic conclusion. From now on my bathroom breaks will take place on concrete only – apologies in advance for any motorists in the area.
