Sara: Day 6

I slept on a couch last night. In retrospect, I may have overestimated the amount of youth left in this 32-year old body. For the first time on this trip, I woke up feeling worse than when I went to bed. I’m not sure if it was the couch itself or the full night of restlessness, worrying that any part of my body, hair, or clothing was touching hotel furniture. Either way, I was worried this AM because today’s ride from Salome to Buckeye was the longest yet at ~75 miles.

As it turns out, today was an awesome day. I’d channel George in saying something along the lines of “today was as good a ride as any”, but we all know I have about 6 data points to support that claim, so I’ll stick with “it was a great ride”. The wind did not present the challenges we expected, the route was flat, the sky was overcast, and we had the added adventures of navigating a flooded road, a dirt road, and startling 7 cows into a full-fledged stampede (who knew they were terrified of cyclists?!)

I did bust the screen of my phone beyond recovery, but those of you who spend any time with me know that’s a pretty common occurrence, so nothing to lose sleep over. But ok, ok, I relent – I’ll get a case for it now.
